Ascendant coach Ben Rutten is ready to simplify the game plan in an ‘internal discount’

According to The Edge’s Sam McClure, after a disastrous start to the 2022 season, Ascendant coach Ben Rutten is ready to simplify his game planning.

Despite not being halfway through his second full season as the club’s only senior coach, Rutten has been under a lot of pressure since his team’s 2-7 start to the year.

The main question about his team’s style of play has been, far from the fast-paced, recreational football with conservative ball movement that saw the Bombers reach the finals last season.

“The most interesting thing is that in the last 24 hours the Ascendant Footy Club has been given an internal waiver that the game plan that Ben Rutten and (assistant coach) Blake Carasella are trying to develop at this football club – especially since last year – is not working. And I think they’re going to take it back, “McClure said.

“There have been conversations with several parts of the club and I think you’ll see the game plan go straight back.

“Overall the club believes that what they are trying to do with the next episode of their game plan has not worked out and they can still save their season, let’s go back.

“There may be an element of it (being tapped on Rutten’s shoulder) and there may be an element of Ben that has come to realize that on its own.”

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

Although McClure suggested that the players were also known to plan to play at rival clubs, Port Adelaide’s Great Kane Cornes said the Bombers players did not have a foothold in this example.

“You’re going to be a very brave Ascendon player right now and say game plan is very complicated because all game planning depends on effort,” said Cornes. Footy is categorized.

“If you don’t try, it doesn’t matter if you have (Alistair) Clarkson, Kevin Shady, Mick Molthouse coaching.

“Don’t worry about a game plan if the players don’t try. The effort comes first, then the game plan. You can’t have a game plan if you don’t have the effort and they don’t have the effort.”
