The Broncos have allowed offensive hooker Jake Turpin to negotiate with rival clubs, Brisbane confirmed in a statement.

The 25-year-old signed a contract with the Broncos by the end of 2022, but he was asked to explore his options.

Turpin was the main hooker for the Broncos in 2021 and held the mantle for the first six rounds of the season, but has since been dropped by Billy Walters.

This is despite the Broncos captaining them in three games last season.

Turpin’s request to leave came a day after the story was settled – at least temporarily.

Haas requested an immediate release from his contract last week, only to later withdraw the request and commit himself to the club.

Walters, who began his NRL career with Storm, joined the West Tigers and moved to the Bronx before the 2021 season, has played a tidy role in the No. 9 jumper throughout Brisbane’s unprecedented revival.

The Broncos collected wooden spoons in 2020 and finished second-last in 2021, but they have risen to the top four after the first 12 rounds of this season.
