Andrew Johns said the main reason for Canterbury’s death was not investing enough in their backbone instead of coaching Trent Barrett.
“They didn’t get the top spot in the NRL category,” Imratal told Wide World of Sports. Freddie and VIII.
“At fullback, Duffy is terribly, terribly out of form. Matt Burton is confident, some of his passes over the weekend were different from his.

“Jeremy Marshall-King, he’s tough but can’t make and craft, and lacks his creativity from the dummy-half. Kyle Flanagan, I don’t know if he’s consistently out of the NRL Standard week after week.”
Trent Barrett left his post at the Bulldogs this week to take charge for the rest of the season with club great Mick Potter. Brent Naden left the club to join the West Tigers just a day after Barrett Bomshell was dropped, which escalated the unrest in Belmore.
Gold has covered the emotional Barrett’s decision
It was an incredibly dry spell for the club, which has not been seen in the NRL Finals since 2016 and has been anchored down the stairs for the past four years. When they signed like Matt Burton, Tevita Pangai Jr., Naden, Dragon duo Matt Duffy and Paul Vaughan and Storm superstar Josh Ado-Carr for the 2022 season, there was growing hope that the family club could return to the glorious years.
Since joining the club as general manager of football, Phil Gold has added Ills hooker Reed Mahoney and Panthers forward William Kikau to the signing star list, but there are still concerns about the team’s backbone.
While Mahoney will go a long way in resolving the issue in particular, Johns believes the rush to recruit big-name players to non-key positions has contributed to the club’s failure to turn things around.
After identifying Canterbury spinal weaknesses, Johns pointed to Melbourne and Penrith as models that should be followed when compiling a list.

“Top teams – Melbourne have Papenhuen, Munster, Jahrom Hughes, Harry Grant and Brandon Smith,” said John.
“Look at Penrith – Jerome [Luai]Nathan [Cleary]Opi [Koroisau]Dylan [Edwards]. They (the Bulldogs) have had to get some players into important positions.
“I understand Dafty is going to the UK Super League. They need a halfback; Flanagan doesn’t have that NRL class.”
Speaking at the Wide World of Sports Six tackles with gas In the podcast, Gold said the club would come out of their pay cap problem in 2024.
“I can tell you about the pay cap for 2024, which is now just 18 months away, with only five or six players on our contracts,” he said.
“So our pay cap is really in very good shape. Not right at the moment, but in 18 months we have the opportunity to completely redesign the culture of the Bulldogs, the Bulldogs.”
