Melbourne Demons, Max Gown Sideline Due to Ankle Syndesmosis Injury

Melbourne captain Max Gown is set to be sidelined after suffering a Syndesmosis injury in the second half of the Demons’ 26-point loss to Collingwood on Monday.

The scans confirmed the injury but reassured that the ankle area was stable and did not require surgery. The gown is expected to be missed in three to five weeks with her recovery.

A syndesmosis injury, often referred to as a sprain of the upper ankle, involves damage to one or more ligaments that bind the two long bones of the lower leg.

Alan Richardson of Melbourne said on Wednesday: “Max had a problem with his left ankle during the game and he was in a lot of pain when he was able to fight.

“He had some scans on Tuesday, which unfortunately showed some ligament damage.

“Max will be in Munboot until the beginning of next week and then start his structural rehabilitation program.

“It’s obviously disappointing that we’ll be without our leader for the next three to five weeks, but we’re hopeful that this will be a relatively quick recovery for Max and that he won’t miss too many feet.”
